Paul DeVries, 81, of DeMotte passed away at the Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Paul was born Dec. 15, 1931 in DeMotte to Edward and Theresa (Tanis) DeVries, both deceased.
He graduated with DeMotte High School's Class of
1950 and proudly served in the Coast Guard. On
Dec. 21, 1956 in DeMotte he married Betty Vander Plaats, who survives.
Paul worked as a farmer in Jasper County, was a
member of the American Legion Post #440 in DeMotte
and the First Christian Reformed Church and served on
the Jasper County Council. He enjoyed photography and took many photos at basketball and volleyball games. He was the official church photographer.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Betty of
DeMotte; his daughter, Caryl (Glenn) Elzinga of May,
Idaho; and seven granddaughters, Melanie, Abigail, Linnaea, Emily, Rebekah, Maddy and Annalise.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter,
Lynda; brothers, John, Milton Sr. and Edward Jr.; and a
sister, Ruth Zwart.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 8, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in
DeMotte. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the
First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte with
Pastor Laryn Zoerhof officiating.
Memorials may be made to DeMotte Christian School or to Covenant Christian School.
