Robert W. "Bob" Steinkamp Sr., 86, of Newburgh, Ind. and a former resident of Rensselaer, passed away at his home June 25, 2013.

Bob was born April 4, 1927, in Rensselaer, the son of Harold and Ruth Williams Steinkamp. He was raised in Rensselaer and attended the Rensselaer schools.
On Feb. 13, 1955, at the Kniman Methodist Church, Bob married Beverly Joan Allen who survives.
Bob was a retired Chief Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 22 years. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Viet Nam, serving on 10 different Naval Ships and had been around the world twice. Bob was previously employed by the Civil Service.
He was a lifetime member of the Rensselaer VFW and a member of the Fleet Retired Association.
Surviving is his loving family: wife of 58 years, Beverly Allen Steinkamp of Newburgh; three children, Rhonda Steinkamp Rineker (Bud) of Dunedin, Fla., Mark A. Steinkamp (Lily) of Newburgh, and Aubrey Joseph Steinkamp of Rensselaer; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and several great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and John Steinkamp; and three children, Robert William Steinkamp Jr., Fern Elizabeth Steinkamp and Eric Daniel Steinkamp.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19, at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Burial will follow at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in Bob's name to the Rensselaer VFW, the Wounded Warriors Project, or any organization working with disabled veterans.
