George William "Bill" Andree, 82, of Monticello passed away at 11:25 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at the White Oak Health Campus of Monticello.
Bill was born May 27, 1932 in Rensselaer to George William and Edith Andree, both deceased. He lived in the Monticello area since 1978.
Bill died from a long time heart condition.
His mother passed away shortly after his death and was raised by his late stepmother Marie Andree. He only knew Marie as his mother. He was a 1950 graduate of Rensselaer High School and went on to graduate in 1954 from Butler University in Indianapolis with a degree in journalism. While attending Butler University, Bill was an officer and member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He worked at the former Indianapolis News while attending the university. Bill attained the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force. He had worked at the Monticello Herald Journal Newspaper in Monticello from 1978 until the time he retired in 1996. Bill started as a columnist, reporter and retired as the managing editor. He had also worked at 3M, and Trans Union in Chicago where he worked at the corporate personnel level. He was an avid English bulldog breeder and was an AKC judge of the English bulldog. Bill traveled from coast to coast judging for 30 years. He was involved for over 60 years with various bulldog clubs within the U.S. His dad and mom where also judges for the AKC. Bill was a member and officer of the Illiana Bulldog Club in Crown Point. He had served as president of the club. He also served as vice president of the Bulldog Club of Indiana. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 81 of Monticello.
Bill is survived by a brother, Robert G. "Bob" (wife Linda) Andree of Schererville, Indiana; niece,
Anne (husband Bruce) Jung of Griffith, Indiana; nephews, Robert G. (wife Jamie) Andree Jr. of Bloomington, Indiana, and Scott Andree of Merrillville, Indiana; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith (Miller) Andree; father, George William Andree; step-mother, Marie Andree; and a stillborn infant sister.
A private family funeral service was held Friday, July 11 with burial following at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer.
Memorials may be given to the Bulldog Club of America Rescue Network ( Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
