Harold A. Risley, 89, of Kentland, died at 7:20 pm, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Iroquois Resident Home of Watseka, Ill.
He was born March 28, 1924 in Rural Kentland to the late Raymond and Zelda (Whaley) Risley. He graduated from Brook High School and went on to serve in the Navy from 1945 to 1946.
His marriage of 67 years was to Betty Lee Scearcy on June 4, 1946 at Mt. Zion E.U.B. She survives.
He was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Kentland American Legion, former Newton County REMC Director, former President and board member of the Newton County Farmers Mutual Inc., and a member of the Newton County Historical Society.
He enjoyed bowling, playing dart ball, and going to various festivals and tournaments to play horseshoes.
Surviving with his wife are his children: Janine Tambling (husband: Gary) of Clifton, Ill, Randall Risley (wife: Kathleen) of Kentland, Janis Hillary (husband: Dennis) of Kankakee, Ill, Ronald Risley (wife: Debra) of Brook, and Rick Risley (wife: Debra) of Kentland.
He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. (CST), today, Friday, September 27, 2013, at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home of Kentland. Funeral Service at 11 a.m. (CST), Saturday, September, 28, 2013 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church of Kentland. Pastor Larry Klingler to officiate. Interment to follow in Buswell Cemetery, Kentland with graveside military rites.
Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church or to the Iroquois Memorial Hospital Hospice.
