Saul Perry Marvin Gottlieb was born on January 26, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA and passed away on January 8th, 2015 at Bermuda Commons Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Advance, NC.
Mr. Gottlieb was the son of the late Gussie and Joseph Gottlieb, brother of Dorothy Gottlieb Solomon, Uncle of Arthur S. Solomon of Charlotte, NC, Hilda and David Wajnberg of Atlanta, GA, Constance Schlosberg of Boynton Beach, FL and Great Uncle to Jeffrey Schlosberg of Hot Springs Village, AR and Great, Great Uncle to Dayton Schlosberg of Maine.
Mr. Gottlieb was born unfortunately with cerebral palsy. In spite of this, he had many remarkable life achievements. He graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC after his parents had moved to NC when he was a very young child. He then resided in Conway with his mother after his father passed.
He previously lived at the Blumenthal Home in Clemmons, NC. He passed away while he was in Hospice at Bermuda Commons just two weeks short of his 85th birthday…remarkable as the doctors only expected to live to an early childhood age.
Mr. Gottlieb brought joy to many people as he never knew a stranger and always made many friends. He learned to play piano and harmonica by ear and was amazing. After his mother passed away, he lived with his sister Dorothy, her husband "Skeet" Ezel Solomon and family most of the time at Myrtle Beach, SC. He became well known as helper for the life guards and was given several awards for his services. Among them was a "lifeguard of the year" trophy. Saul became known as Mr. Myrtle Beach in the Cane Patch area of Myrtle Beach for all his kindness to people he met while walking the beach. Saul enjoyed a love of geography, maps and travel and the love of fine foods.
On January 8th, at 1 PM, one of the life guards (Chad Addington) from those prior years stopped by our family home still at Myrtle Beach and inquired if Saul still lived there. Arthur spoke with him at length, reminiscing about those wonderful years he remembered with Saul. Highly unusual as this was the very day that several hours later Saul passed away.
Saul surely will be missed by his family and all who knew him. He touched our souls and our lives forever.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Hebrew Benevolent Society, 720 Blanding St, Columbia, SC 29201. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to your favorite charity or to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation of South Carolina in his memory.

Therefore, we want to become imitators of God, his beloved children, and walk in love, just as Christ. Jesus loves us and gave himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice. Truly, he is pleasing to his Father. Let us, therefore let no man deceive us with unfilled words for such things anger God. Please read Ephesians 5:1-6.

This passage came to mind when it read messages for Saul.

I am so sorry to hear of Saul's passing, but delighted to know that he had such a long and happy life. I remember him well from our congregation when we were growing up. He was always very sweet and respectful to everyone. My best to you all as you mourn the loss of your uncle.

Saul was a wonderful caring man who touched the hearts of everyone he met. He showed a great appreciation for the things in life that others usually take for granted. He was voted "King of Bermuda Commons" and proudly wore his crown everyday for nearly a year. He entertained staff and visitors as he played his harmonica and made us laugh with his wonderful sense of humor. Despite any obstacle he faced his joyful spirit always shined brightly. I am grateful that I was able to work with Saul for five years. He was deeply loved by his Bermuda Commons family and will be missed terribly.

We witnessed the many acts of friendship that Saul gave to everyone who visited the Grand Strand area. He was a special friend to our son, lifeguard, Brad Lawson.

I am one of the lifeguards he touched while i worked on the beach.He was a great man helped me out many times on the beach. He will be missed greatly!! Cant wait to see him again helping the lifeguards on the golden beaches up in heaven!!!
