I am writing on behalf of "Son" (James Willard) Pope....My Mother, Martha Carpenter, his Sister, is in room 301 at Abernethy Laurels...Son asked me to go seen Joe last week, which I did..Then on Friday, Son wound up in the hospital with a mild heart attack, arrythimia, and a heart cath which showed a 50 percent blockage...He is home now and is so anxious to hear from Helen as he is very upset....My Dad was "Coon" Carpenter, his partner at Montclair Furniture...I was at Baytree many times and knew Joe myself...blessings to the family...

Joe has been a part of my life for over 32 years and will be dearly missed. He was my Godfather, but more like a father to me. Whether I needed advice or not, Joe always gave it to me! I will forever cherish the summers at Bermuda Run and the trips to the beach. Every time I saw him, he'd ask if I remembered driving his Bentley when I was about 17 years old from Little River to Long Beach. He kept telling me to speed up because I was driving too slow, but I was so afraid of wrecking.

Helen, I want to thank you, again, for all that you've done for Joe. I know it hasn't been easy being his caregiver, but you did it because you loved and cared for him. I'm very thankful that you were there for him.

Matthew and Helen, you're in my thoughts and prayers! We all have to think about the good times we shared with Joe! May God bless you and help you through this difficult time!

Helen, so sorry to hear about Joe. I am a former fabric rep. now living in Ocean Isle. By chance I recently ran in to Joe and had a great time talking about old times and old friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. A very special person and friend. My prayers are with you and the family.

Joe Marion AKA Joey Pajamas … What a unique man!!! Joe and Bear were neighbors for 8-short years and we shared many, many glasses of wine and stories during those years. We tried to solve the financial woes of this country without much success. Joey Pajamas got his name because every morning he would walk Oreo down the street dressed in his pajamas and robe so it was only fitting that we give him an appropriate nickname. I will miss Joey Pajamas, the wine on the porch and his one of its kind outlook on life.

There was only one Joe Marion! He was such and good special friend to my daddy, Joe Teague, during all the many years they worked in the furniture industry. Joe truly loved life and taught so many of us fortunate to have known him how to make the most of every day, every situation and every relationship. I know Daddy loved him and so did I! We have such good memories because of Joe. Peace be with you.
