Gerard "Jerry" Van Houtte, age 68, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Jerry was born in Charleroi, Belgium a son of Margarethe Van Houtte and the late Henry Van Houtte. He retired from the U.S. Navy
after 20 years of service, serving two tours in the Vietnam War
. Jerry also played soccer in Spain for three years for the Navy. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for nineteen years before retiring in order to care for his parents. Jerry was a member of Brown Swamp United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of Conway, are one sister, Monique Glowacz and her husband Ted of Conway, one brother, Fred Van Houtte and his wife Diane of Conway, his nieces and nephews, Vanessa Jodoin, Freddy Van Houtte, Jr., Jason Van Houtte, Renee Taylor, and Lisa Hill, one great niece, Kayla Taylor, and two great nephews, Preston and Keith Van Houtte.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Brown Swamp United Methodist Church with Rev. Jo Anna Fallaw officiating. Committal services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM Tuesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
