Donald Mark Prince, 79, of Myrtle Beach, passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Mr. Prince was born on April 5, 1938 in Fair Bluff, North Carolina, to the late Woodrow and Carrie Floyd Prince.
After an illustrious sports career in high school, Mr. Prince was awarded a scholarship to Campbell University where he excelled on the baseball and basketball teams and in the classroom. He earned his teaching degree from East Carolina University and was drafted into the Chicago Cubs organization. He played minor league baseball as a pitcher from 1958 to 1964 and for a short stint was part of Chicago's major league team.
After leaving baseball, Mr. Prince taught and coached varsity basketball at Hoke High School in Raeford, North Carolina. He then relocated to Wilmington, and began a career in insurance. For many years, he was the owner of a successful real estate and independent insurance agency. He was an aviation enthusiast and loved piloting his private plane. Mr. Prince retired to Myrtle Beach.
Mr. Prince was predeceased in addition to his parents, by his wife, Jill Lyles Prince, his brother Bill Prince, and nephews, John Guy and Woody Prince.
He is survived by his son, Mark Prince (Cathey) of Oak Ridge, NC; a daughter, Pamela Smith (Scott) of Wilmington; a sister, Louise Prince Majstorich of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Jillian and Madison Smith and Natalie, Marcia, and Gregory Prince, and a dear friend, Arlene Jackson of Nichols.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will be at Hammond Cemetery in Nichols.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Don's memory to the American Heart Association, Memorial and Tribute Processing Center, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060 or to Hammond Cemetery Fund, c/o Fran Hammond Huggins, 6401 Overbrook Shortcut Road, Nichols, South Carolina 29581.

I met Don only a couple years ago. He was considerate and kind and I'm sure he will be missed. Goodbye Don, rest peacefully and "play ball"! My sincere sympathy to Don's loved ones and friends.
