I remember Gene well because we were in the same Park Police induction class. I worked with him for two or three years before a transfer to ranger series, NPS. He was a good man and a fair minded man. Of course he would have dogs. We had a few beers while he was going through a difficult divorce. He didn't say much but it was hurting him. I was not at all surprised to find him in national news in 1982, featured for his heroism. He was just that kind of guy. He was one of the good ones. Sincerely, Michael M. Wilson
PS, I'm in the front row in our class graduation photo is he still has that somewhere. God bless him.

To Maureen and family, John and I send our most sorrowful regrets and all our love to you. Gene was a remarkable man, he helped people all his life. He was one of the finest police officers that Surfside Beach ever had and it was an honor to Chief Lloyd to have had Gene serve under his term in office. May your grief be soften by knowing that he was loved by many people.
