Gary J. Walker, Sr.
On the morning of June 9, 2013, Gary passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by his family at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Gary was 58 years old.
Gary was born in the town of Mastic Beach, NY and was the third child and youngest son of William and Dolores Walker. In his early years Gary worked as an auto mechanic. He then moved on to owning his own business with his brother, Bill. Walker's Seamless Gutters brought Gary a great deal of success and satisfaction, as he was able to help many people in Eastern Long Island, NY. Following a move to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Gary chose to return to his love of mechanics by working in small engine repair at Mr. B's.
Gary loved to help others. A talented mechanic and carpenter, Gary was able to fix anything that needed fixing and was happy doing so for all of his very dear and loved family and friends. As a grandfather, father, brother, and son Gary was very well loved and will be missed dearly. His many dear friends in South Carolina will greave his loss and hold his memory in their hearts also.
One of Gary's favorite activities was to volunteer to help children and veterans. He worked with his friends, who were like family, to place Memorial Day flags at gravesites of veterans. Gary spent more than a decade volunteering during the holidays to make food and bring gifts for the children at Friends Helping Friends and Sea Haven Youth Care Home, in Little River, SC.
His loving father, William R. Walker Jr., preceded Gary in death. His son, Gary J. Walker Jr. and his very loved grandson, Alexander Gary Walker, survive Gary. In addition, Gary is survived by his mother, Dolores, his older brother Bill (Carol) and younger brother Lee (Deb) and younger sister, Karen (Rick). His many nieces and nephews also will treasure the love that Gary gave them. Gary's second "family" consists of all of those in Little River who have loved him for years.
Gary's love of children and respect for veterans provides the knowledge that donations to Sea Haven Inc. at P.O. Box 600, North Myrtle Beach, SC, 29597 or to Veteran's Welcome Home and Resource at 4254 Stella Court, Little River, SC, 29566; with a notation in memory of Gary Walker; would bring Gary great joy.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held Saturday, June 15. The celebration will begin at 3pm with friends and family meeting at the Finish Line, Hwy. 17, North Myrtle Beach and continue at Jay's of Little River from 4pm to 6pm.
A message of condolence may be sent to email@example.com.
Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
