George M. Jurik
Surfside Beach
George M. Jurik, age 89, died suddenly at his residence Tuesday, March 4, 2014, with his loving wife, Shirl, of 65 years at his side.
Born in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Jurik. Mr. Jurik received a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Syracuse University. He was a WWII U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, bowler and had a beautiful singing voice that family and friends enjoyed for many years. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Jurik.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Jurik of Surfside Beach; children, Patricia Jurik of Myrtle Beach, Susan Marconi of Ft. Myers, FL, Judy (John) McCarthy of Ft. Myers, FL and Kathy (Kelly) Hopkins of Seven Lakes, NC; two grandchildren, Lisa (Joe) Hogan of Charlotte, NC and David Hopkins of Seven Lakes, NC; sister in law, Virginia Jurik of Binghamton, NY and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church Building Fund, 542 Cypress Ave. Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
