Mr. Jonathan E. McKelvey 63, of the Socastee area passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013. Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, October 12,2013 at Sandy Grove MB Church. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Ocean View Memorial Chapel.Online condolences may be sent to www.oceanviewfuneralhome.com. Services entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home.

I just had to share my condolences with your family. My son was on Coach McKelvey's track team in the late 1990's; but coach was so much more than a track coach. He was a mentor that taught a young man how to be a responsible adult. Today, as coach was being laid to rest, I couldn't help but think of the man he helped my son become as I watched my son coaching his son's football team in the disciplined yet caring manner he learned from Coach McKelvey. God bless you family.

I have just retired from Horry County Schools and both of my children attended SHS. Coach McKelvey touched the lives of so many students. He was kind, friendly and loving to all and will greatly be missed. Mrs. McKelvey and family,what wonderful memories you must have! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Coach,
I don't know where to begin. I have spent many evenings and weekends with you on various tracks all over SC. Our friendship was one that will never be matched. The love and care you showed for my girls warmed my heart each day. Even after graduation we have all kept in touch. I am going to miss coming by to see you at the spur of the moment and catching you sitting out in your background just enjoying the outdoors. I will also miss our random phone calls, the ones that had no reason but just to say hey and touch base. I am so sorry I missed your last call. I will always wonder what you had to say. Whatever it was, save the story for me and I will meet you again one day so we can pick up the conversation where we left off. Til we meet again, Love you my friend:)

Jon McKelvey was a powerhouse of charm, grit, fairness, and character. In the 29 years I taught at SHS, no one could match what he brought to the table every day. Students, faculty, and parents alike respected him and loved him. I am so sorry that we lost him at such an early age. He will never be forgotten!

Mr. McKelvey.... no words can I say to ease the pain of your absence. I will miss you from across the street, our daily waves hello and goodbye. ... we have been neighbors for a long long time now and you were always the sweetest, most friendliest guy on the block! I am going to miss our chats and your ever so sweet smiles. This neighborhood is just not going to be the same without you. All my love to Ms. Barbara, Joey and family... hold your spirits high... you know he is watching over all of you! He is in Gods hands now where he is safe from harm and running with a new heart!
