Ronald Woodrow McManus

Mr. Ronald Woodrow McManus, age 70, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at his home.

Born April 12, 1943 in Charlotte, NC, he was a son of the late Robert Woodrow McManus and Mattie Ramona Helms McManus.

Mr. McManus graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and attended Wingate College.

Although he grew up in Charlotte, NC, his family made Cherry Grove their second home in 1958. He never met a stranger.

He was the owner of Food Brokers, Inc. and served on several national boards for food companies. Mr. McManus was also the co-founder and Chairman of the James W. Caudle Foundation, and he was the Director of the Dixie Chicken Fishing Funament.

Active in many civic organizations in and around North Myrtle Beach, he was a former Chairman of Events for the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. McManus was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach, where served as a Deacon and the Moderator of Deacons.

He had been a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge #692 in Charlotte, NC.

Mr. McManus was also a volunteer fireman from the age of 12 until 1965 with the Oakhurst Fire Department in Charlotte, NC, which his father founded.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Katharine Chenault McManus; son, Robert Woodrow McManus of Monroe, NC; daughter, Margaret Lynnsie McManus of Denver, NC; and four grandchildren, Ann Kendall McManus, Robert Grayson McManus, John Michael McManus, and Matthew Chenault McManus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Kenneth McManus.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach. The Rev. Dr. John C. Brearley will officiate.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC.
