Kathy Abernathy

Mrs. Kathy Elaine Blackburn Dobbs Abernathy, age 66, wife of R. Wayne Abernathy died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Agape Rehabilitation of Conway after struggling with Alzheimer's.
Born January 14, 1948, in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of Evelyn Collette Deal Blackburn Shepherd and the late Harry Blackburn. A native of Charlotte, NC, she attended Grainger High School and made a career in the accounting field for Chiller Services. Mrs. Abernathy attended The Rock Church in Conway. She was predeceased by her step father, Eli Shepherd of Laurinburg, NC.
Survivors, other than her mother of Charlotte, NC, and her husband of Lawndale, NC are: her children, Brian W. Abernathy and wife Mandy Singleton of Conway and Candy Elaine Dobbs Thomas and husband Edd of Port Orange, FL; grandsons, Caleb D. Abernathy and Casey R. Abernathy; step-granddaughter, Marlowe Crosland; sisters, Vicki Maynor and husband Randal of Charlotte, NC and Dusty McCorkle and husband Homer of Indian Trail, NC; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, March 29, 2014, at McEwen Funeral Home Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, Charlotte, NC 28227. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00PM until 3:00PM.
