Margaret Bishop Nixon
Margaret Bishop Nixon, 85, passed away at home on July 7, 2013.
Margaret was born in Berlin, NH, the daughter of the late Harry A. Bishop, Sr. and Georgia Walters Bishop, on December 4, 1927. In her youth, she was an outstanding skier in NH. She was an active member of The South Congregational Church, Granby, CT, sang in the choir and was a former Deaconess of that church. She conquered her fear of flying by getting her pilots license. She was the first woman member of the Granby Ambulance Association. She was a graduate of Gorham (NH) High School and the University of New Hampshire. She was a resident of Granby CT from 1950 until June 1982 when she moved to Garden City. She was a former member of the Ladies Golf Association at Litchfield County Club and was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Wachesaw Plantation Club.
Surviving is her husband of 65 years, L. Richard Nixon of Garden City; son, Russell A. Nixon of Conway; daughters, Karen A. Nixon, Orange County, CA and Sally Gosselin (Richard), Granby, CT; brothers: Arthur N. Bishop of Huntington Beach, CA and William R. Bishop of Ocean City, MD and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret's family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
