Jack Center, 85, of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jack was born to the late Sylvia and Hyman Center in Philadelphia, PA on October 7, 1928. He is a World War II veteran, having served as a staff sergeant in the 351st Infantry Regiment, Blue Devils.
Jack married his wife, Gloria on May 5, 1950. They were ballroom dance instructors for Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Philadelphia before managing a studio in Harrisburg, PA. Jack and Gloria eventually relocated to northern NJ where he worked as a manager for several retail businesses before accepting a position at the Morris County Daily Record. Jack retired as a Vice President of the Daily Record in 1982.
Jack was very involved and recognized for his service with the March of Dimes. And up until his passing, he had a kindness and generosity toward those in need.
Jack had a passion for classical music and was an avid golfer. He had a wonderfully dry sense of humor, and a special way of making people feel welcome and appreciated. He was a loving family man, dedicated to community service and doing the right thing, even when no one was looking.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria J Center; son Michael A. Center of Richmond, VA and daughter Jacqueline J Center, of Daytona Beach, FL; sister Jan Frantz of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including niece Karen Backall and husband Ray Metzger of Cameron, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Burroughs Funeral Home, Murrells Inlet, SC (843.651.1440).
