Mrs. Janette Barrs McCluggage, 77, of Louisville, formerly of Milton, Ky. and a native of Bleckley County, Ga. She was born July 19, 1941, the daughter of James S. and Florence Pipkin Barrs. She was a graduate of Middle Georgia College; Cochran, Ga.; The Woman's College of Georgia, in Milledgeville, Ga., Sullivan University in Louisville and had graduate studies at the University of Louisville.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1968, to Charles Douglas McCluggage in Madison, Ind. Janette worked as a social worker for the Bureau of Indian Affairs with the Wahpeton Sioux in Sisseton, S. D. She taught school in Georgia, in Madison Consolidated School System in Madison, and in the Trimble County School System in Milton. She worked as a Position Classification Specialist at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison; Corps of Engineers in Wilmington, N. C. and MTMTS in Sunny Point, N. C. She was an instructor and acting program chair for the Computer Science Department and the Information Data Systems Management Department at Ivy Tech in Madison, Lawrenceburg, and Batesville, Ind. from which she retired in 1988. Mrs. McCluggage was a member of the unlimited hydroplane MISS MADISON Crew Wives, who raised funds for MISS MADISON Racing. As a volunteer, Janette was one of the key organizers of the Trimble County Emergency Medical Services serving as the squad leader and EMT for the Milton Squad. Janette was an active member of the Middletown Christian Church in Middletown, Kentucky. Janette died on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at 6:40 p.m. at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville, Kentucky.
Janette will be missed by her loving son, Matthew Steven McCluggage and his wife, Dr. Natalie McCluggage of Louisville, Ky.; her loving granddaughters, Tatem Rene and Camille Demi McCluggage; her brothers, James S. Barrs, III of Eastman, Ga., Carl Henry Barrs of Columbia, South America; her sisters, Peggy Barrs McCard and her husband, Keith of Moravian Falls, N. C., Grace Barrs Waszczak and her husband, John of Orlando, Fla., Doris Barrs Colburn of Lineville, Ala.; her step-sister, Audrey Hall Peacock and her husband, Joel of Lyons, Ga.; her step-brothers, Phillip Anthony and his wife, Glenda of Reynolds, Ga., Danny Anthony and his wife, Pam of Reynolds; 12-nieces and nephews; 19-grand-nieces and grand-nephews; two great-grand nieces; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, James Steve Barrs, her mother, Florence Pipkin Barrs, her husband of 35 years, Charles Douglas McCluggage, died July 18, 2003; her sister, Alma Barrs Williams; her step mother, Muriel Anthony Barrs; and her step-brother, Michael Anthony.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, with Senior Minister, David Emery officiating. Interment followed in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, near Madison.
