Linda Martin Caudill, 76, of Plainfield, formerly of Hanover, Ind. entered this life on February 2, 1942, in Martin, Ky. She was the loving daughter of the late McClellan and Mary Blanche Hill Martin. She was raised in Martin and her family later moved to Trimble County, Ky. in her senior year of high school, she graduated from Trimble County High School in 1960. Linda held bachelors and master's degrees respectively, from Ball State University and Indiana State University. On June 12, 1965, Linda was united in marriage to James Howard 'Buddy' Caudill in Milton, Ky. This happy union of nearly 44 years was blessed with a daughter, Jamelin. Linda had resided in Hanover from 1976-2010. She was a retired educator having taught in the Southwestern School System for 42 years. She had taught shorthand, typing, child development, interior design, home economics, and keyboarding. Linda took great interest in each student's well-being and making sure they had the life skills needed to move forward in life. Many of her former students still credit her with teaching them how to sew on a button. While living in Hanover she was a faithful member of Hanover United Methodist Church and after moving to Plainfield became a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church. Linda had held memberships in the Indiana State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. In the years following her retirement, she especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Susanna and grandson, James. Linda loved music especially the Gaithers, sewing, canning, decorating and attending all of her grandchildren's activities. Linda departed this life on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 4:48 a.m. at Life's Journey of Avon in Avon, Ind.
Linda will be missed by her daughter, Jamelin Caudill Swinger and her husband, Anthony of Plainfield; her granddaughter, Susanna Frances Swinger of Plainfield; her grandson, James Anthony Swinger of Plainfield; her brother, James Hill Martin and his wife, Carole of Florida; her sister-in-law Bonnie Hinton and her husband Noah 'Spears' Hinton; several nieces and additional relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Caudill who died on March 5, 2009; her father, McClellan Martin; and her mother, Mary Blanche Hill Martin.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 21, by Pastor Charles Wilfong at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Ind.
Entombment service followed on Monday, July 23, at the Peace Chapel in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers; please direct to Plainfield United Methodist Church, St. Richard's Episcopal School, or The Indianapolis Children's Choir.
