Funeral services for Shirley Clemens Kennedy of Gardendale are scheduled for 2:00pm Friday May 3, 2013 at American Heritage Funeral Home, located on North FM 1788, between Modland and Odessa. Burial will follow at American Heritage Cemetary, with Reverand Paul Thompson and Homer E. (Charley) Kennedy Jr. Officiating. Ms. Kennedy died Tuesday at Midland Memorial Hospital. Shirley was born on October 15, 1951 in Seminole, Tx to E.B. and Faye Clemens, she grew up in Kermit. Shirley graduated from Kermit High School in 1970 and attended Odessa College and Tyler Junior College. Shirley married Donald R. Kennedy on January 12, 1973 in Kermit. They celebrated their 40th Anniversary on January 12, 2013. Shirley worked in retail, security, and as a food service manager for MISD. She was Co-owner and station manager of KJBC Radio until her retirement. Her survivors include her husband of 40 years, Don Kennedy of the home, one daughter Donna Kennedy Carrasco and son in law Rene Carrasco, granddaughters Isabella and Sophia Carrasco, and a grandson Nicholas Carrasco all of Midland. Her Mother Faye Mathis, a sister Mae James (Frank) all of Newnan Georgia, and a brother Elbert Clemens (Marilyn) of Baton Rouge, LA. She is preceded in death by her father E.B. Clemens, her maternal grandparents James and Lennie Preast, and her paternal grandparents Arthur and Louise Clemens. The family wishes to thank the ER Staff, the CCU staff, and the 6th floor staff at Midland Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion, and Dr. Don McLarey II and his staff at Home Hospice. The family requests all memorials be directed to the Hospice House in Odessa.
