We are sad to announce that Shirley Wanda Pierson of Jal, New Mexico passed away at the Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews, Texas on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the age of 83 from congestive heart failure and emphysema. Shirley was born and raised in Baird, Texas, where she met Jim Pierson. Upon his return from the Navy, they married in 1946. They moved to Jal, New Mexico in 1949 and lived there until their deaths 60+ years later. They loved Jal and never considered living anywhere else. They had many dear friends and were involved in numerous activities in the community. They loved dancing and music, enjoyed playing golf with friends, and had too many fun memories to count. Their home was the gathering place for many parties which they cherished. They looked forward to their family reunions there, plus corresponding and visiting with their relatives in Belgium. Shirley was a fun loving, friendly person who enjoyed her life and loved to laugh. She was always positive and supportive with a good outlook on life. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and made her home welcoming to everyone. She lived her life to the fullest and felt very blessed. She was loved by all who knew her and she in return loved them. She will be missed. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Compass Hospice for their support in her final days. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Pierson, and is survived by her daughter Sherry and son-in-law Jeff Snowden of Austin, Texas, her son Tony Pierson of Jal, New Mexico, her grandson Casey Sparling of San Antonio, Texas, her brother Bob Pool and this wife Susan of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Graveside services are set for Saturday, February 16th, at 2:00 pm at the Jal Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Compass Hospice, 1330 E. 8th St., Odessa, Texas 79761, (432) 552-1400.
