Dorothy Conklin Obituary

Dorothy Conklin

Dorothy Bogert Conklin, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005 in Houston, Texas.

Dorothy was born to E.A. Bogert and Florence Isabelle Kingsland in Irvington, New Jersey, August 8, 1926. The Bogert family moved to La Port, Indiana, and eventually Canyon, Texas, where Dorothy graduated from Canyon High School. Dorothy later attended A&I College in Kingsville, Texas.

Traveling back to her home state of New Jersey, Dorothy met and married Vincent B. Conklin in 1953 and the couple relocated to Midland, Texas. In Midland, Dorothy obtained her real estate license and was active in the Head Start program. Eventually, Dorothy's innate style and refined taste in Victorian furniture and accessories led her into the antique business where she became a well-respected antique dealer.

Dorothy moved to Kerrville, Texas in 1993. Always an active volunteer for the Kathleen Cailloux Humane Society, Dorothy spent many hours performing pet therapy with her Japanese Chin, Miss Lilly at local nursing homes. Dorothy also mentored at local elementary schools, and was a docent at the L.D. Brinkman Corporate Headquarters.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent and is survived by her sister, Barbara Bruno of Kerrville, Texas; her sons, Kevin Conklin of Corpus Christi, Texas and Regan Conklin of South Dakota; her daughter, Adrienne Conklin of Houston, Texas; her nephews, Randy Bruno of Midland, Texas and Lee Bruno of Midland, Texas; her niece, Penny Bruno of Fair Oaks, Texas; two great nephews, one great niece, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Kerrville at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2005 officiated by Dr. Warren Hornung.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Kathleen Cailloux Humane Society, 2900 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028 or the charity of your choice.

Dorothy was one of the classiest women I ever knew. Even though I had lost touch with her, she was great fun back in my early days in Midland with her best friends who were also friends of mine. We had many hours of laughing and some of tears when we lost our friends, Jayne and Mutt Green. I know her friendly laugh will be missed.
