Clovis "Cokie" Russell went to be with the Lord, in Midland, TX, on September 9, 2012. She was born in Wichita Falls, TX, to Ralph and Ruth Claypool on November 20, 1927, and lived in Wichita Falls until she moved to Midland to be with her family in June 2000. She married Garland L. Russell on September 4, 1948. They were members of Floral Heights United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, and they were members of the Couples Class for many years. Cokie graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. degree in Child Development in January 1949. She earned a Master's degree in Education at Midwestern State University in 1967 and taught school for many years. She was an avid reader and loved to play bridge, but the greatest joy of her life was her family. Her sisters were her closest friends, and she was selflessly devoted to her children and grandchildren. The life she lived was with integrity, kindness, perseverance, and humor and was an example to her family and those who knew her. Her deep faith in Christ was part of a great legacy she left to her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brother, Ralph Claypool of Austin, TX; her sister, Jeanne Gant and her husband, Bob of Wichita Falls; and her sister, Patricia Runge of Casper, WY. She is survived by three children and six grandchildren: her son, Dale Russell and his wife, Kathy and their son, Sam of Plano, TX; her daughter, Janna Sanderson and her husband, Mike of Flower Mound, TX and their children, Eric and his wife, Julia, David, and Laura; and her daughter, Susan Brown and her husband, David and daughters, Julie and Natalie of Midland, TX. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanne Claypool of Austin, TX; a brother-in-law, John Runge of Casper, WY; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 14. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, at Midland Bible Church, 2800 North A Street, Midland, TX 79705, at 1:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials be made to the Midland County Public Library, 301 West Missouri Avenue, Midland, TX 79701 designated in her memory for the Centennial Library or to the building fund of Midland Bible Church.
