Lillian Davis Obituary

Lillian Lovelace Walters Davis of Atlanta, Texas passed away on May 15, 2009 at the age of 99.

She was born November 1, 1909 to Walter Anderson Walters and Ollie Jane White Walters. A Cass County farming family, they raised corn, cotton, and garden crops.

Prior to the age of 2, her mother died in childbirth and she went to live with her uncle and aunt, John and Lucille White. She attended country schools in Cass County. Years later her father married Mary Lucille Ward.

On Aug. 9, 1932 she married Royce Johnnie Davis in Ravanna, AR. After farming for several years near Atlanta, they relocated to Borger, TX where Royce was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company. In 1980 they returned to Atlanta to spend their retirement years.

Lillian loved caring for her family, gardening and sewing. While living in Borger, she provided childcare in her home for several young neighborhood children.

She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, her husband of 57 years, an infant son, and an infant daughter.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Ann Davis of Atlanta, TX; two sons, Robert Curtis Davis of Perth, Australia and Richard Neil Davis and wife, Barbara of Midland, TX. She is also survived by two sisters, Doris Geneva Walters and Annie Earlene Walters Lindberg of Atlanta, TX; three granddaughters, Leslie Davis Alvarez and husband, Rob of Fort Worth, TX, Amy Davis Jamail and husband, Travis of Cedar Park, TX and Becky Davis Hamilton and her husband, Brandon of Midland, TX; five great-grandchildren, Perry Dean Jamail, Emma Lillian Jamail, Braylon Neil Hamilton, Blane Caleb Hamilton and Alyssa Jolene Alvarez; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A family graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Smyrna Cemetery, Cass County, TX.

With a public memorial service to be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 22, 2009 at Smyrna Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Parker Officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Hanner Funeral Service, Atlanta, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Smyrna Baptist Church (New Building Fund), 4621 Hwy. 77 East, Atlanta, TX 75551.

Arrangements will be under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.
