Margaret Faye Poulter went to heaven to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, due to complications resulting from a fall. She was surrounded by her children who sang hymns and prayed with her as she left this earth and was reunited with Ed and all her friends and family who have gone before. Margaret was born May 1, 1923, in Wichita Falls, TX, the daughter of Allie Mae and Dan Ellis. She and her older brother W. R. "Mac" McKee grew up in Lancaster, in the Dallas area. She excelled in high school, graduating Valedictorian at Lancaster High School in 1940. Mom met the love of her life, Ed Poulter, on a blind date while he was a student at North Texas State University and she was working at Southwestern Life Insurance in Dallas. They married on December 4, 1942 and were married 65 years. After the war, Margaret and Ed moved to Tulsa, OK. She received a PHT degree from Tulsa University (Putting Hubby Through). After college, they settled in McCamey and their first child, Paula, was born. They moved to Sundown, TX and while living there, Margaret and Ed were baptized on March 24, 1952. This was the most important decision of their young lives, and it shaped every part of their future. They moved to Denver City, had two more children, Patti and Preston, and spent many happy years there. From there, they moved to Midland, TX, in 1962. Mom was an amazing woman. She was a fabulous cook and truly had a gift for hospitality. Over the years, she fed so many people, including many of the widows at church. She was famous for her banana bread and peach cobbler. What's really wonderful is that she passed on the gifts of cooking and hospitality to her children and grandchildren. Mom was a child of the Great Depression and because of this, she knew the value of a dollar. She knew how to stretch a dollar and save a dollar. She gave new meaning to the word "thrifty", but she always made it fun. She would pack a lovely picnic rather than waste money eating out. The family would all go to the drive-in movie with a big bag of fresh popcorn from home and a giant Hershey bar to share. Mom was also an avid game player. She especially liked to WIN! She was great about teaching the grandkids to play games when she and Dad would take them on vacations. Some of the best memories are playing games in the trailer in Yosemite or Yellowstone or Colorado or Canada. Mom was a wonderful teacher. She taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Golf Course Rd. Church of Christ for many years. She loved the kids and they loved her right back. The Bible was so important to Mom and she wanted the kids in her class to KNOW the stories from God's word. The stories came alive and the children she taught would come back to see her year after year. Mom and Dad were charter members at Golf Course Rd and were very active for 32 years and have many dear friends there. They started attending Fairmont Church of Christ in the early 90's and have many dear friends there. Mom was a team player. When the kids got ready to go to college, Mom went to work at Floyd West Insurance Co. She worked there for 12 years. She did a great job, made some wonderful friends and helped pay for college. Mom loved to look nice. Thursday was "hair day" with Angel. She had beautiful skin thanks to Merle Norman. She chose her clothes carefully and enjoyed coordinating Dad's clothes with whatever she was wearing. She was always impeccably put together. Preceded in death by her parents and brother and by her beloved Ed, she is survived by her three children and their families: Paula and John Chick, Jennifer Chick and baby, Nora Rose Chick of Valdosta, GA; Jeremy, Jessica, Claudia Grace and Andrew Evans Chick of Tifton, GA; Jonathan and Carrie Chick of Savannah, GA; Patti and Larry Elmore of Morrison, CO; Lindsay and Dylan Warren of Austin, TX; Chase and Cherith Elmore and baby Stanley Edwin of Parker, CO; Dailey Elmore, of Morrison, CO; and Kelsey and Jordan Taitano of Denver, CO; Preston Poulter and Madison Poulter of Kennesaw, GA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 2:00-4:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 1:00PM at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland with Don Mitchell of Fairmont Park Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Mom will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Ed. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, Home Hospice, or a . Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com
