Pete McDaniel Obituary

Pete (R.T.) McDaniel left his earthly life on January 13, 2011, to join his heavenly Father and a host of family and friends. Born on a ranch in King County to Roy and Thelma McDaniel on February 2, 1922, he grew up living and working on ranches in Texas and New Mexico including the famed Pitchfork, Swenson and Matodor. As part of the "Greatest Generation", he lived the American Dream with determination, gusto, a great sense of humor and belief in hard work. Enduring the Great Depression and GI service in WW II, including the Burma Road, Pete moved on to a career in the oil fields. He worked for Hughes Tool Company and then formed a lifelong friendship and working partnership with Pat and Mary Beth Ramsay in several businesses including MR Oil Company in Monahans. Pete's life partner was Georgia Mapes McDaniel, who has been the "wind beneath his wings." For almost 64 years, they have shared the ups and downs of life leading to 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 10 grandchildren. They lived in many West Texas communities but settled in Monahans, Texas where they forged many wonderful relationships including those in the First Methodist Church, and in Horseshoe Bay where they moved after retirement. Pete's other affiliations included the Masons (32d degree), The Confederate Air Force, Rotary, and the Chuck Wagon Gang. It has been a wonderful life. Pete is survived by his wife, Georgia: daughters and spouses, Cynthia and Bryan Maedgen, Kathie and Kent Bowermon, and Stevie and Randy Pipkin; two sisters, Dell Campbell and Pat Addison of Abilene, Texas. His brother Howard and sister Ruth met him as he entered heaven. Grandchildren including spouses: Robin Dickey; Courtney and Scott Burlison; Meredith Dickey; Keely and Joe Dunn; Kade and Julie Bowermon; Chad and Tenee Pipkin; and Christin and Daniel Gray. Great-grandchildren who will miss feeding the catfish with Granddaddy Pete are Dylan, Taylor, Mary Ella, Kole, Addy, Drew, Aubrey, Molly, Georgia, and Aspen. There is also a host of nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Pete's mischievous antics. A celebration of Pete McDaniel's life will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 2 p.m. at The Church at Horseshoe Bay. Those desiring to honor him may send contributions to First Methodist Church of Monahans (PO Box 1470, Monahans, TX 79756) or a charity of their choice. The family is grateful for all the prayers and support from friends and family. Condolences may be offered at www.clementswilc oxfuneralhome.com
