John Edward Cook of Round Rock, Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2007 at his home after a courageous, almost three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease). He was 54 years of age.
The Guest Book is expired.
John was born September 16, 1953 in McLeansboro, Illinois to Jennie Lou (Porter) and Edward Earl Cook. He lived with his mother in Louisville, IL for much of his life, graduating from Clay County High School in 1971. After graduating from Lincoln Trail College with an associate's degree in Petroleum Technology, he moved to Midland, Texas in 1973 to join Cities Service, which later became OXY USA.
John married Jody Hosier on February 15, 1974 in Midland, Texas. The couple was blessed with three children, Jonathan, Jennika, and Jillan. John took great pride in his 30-plus years of service to the same company.
Upon his diagnosis, John took disability from OXY USA and moved to Round Rock, Texas to be nearer his children. He enjoyed seeing the birth of his first granddaughter, Lillie, and his grandson and namesake, John Clark (Jacey). John was a true lover of family, giving much of himself throughout the years to spend time with his children. The strength and closeness of his family is a testament to his ability to lead and guide his wife, children, and grandchildren through good times and bad. Although any that have known John can attest to his irreverent sense of humor, he will be remembered most for the strength, wisdom, and fortitude that was as strong during his most difficult last days as it was during his prime.
Although John lived life to its fullest, his faith and belief in God sustained him during times of trouble. John will be remembered as a devoted husband, supportive father, loving grandfather and loyal friend.
John will remain in the hearts of his wife, Jody Cook; his children, Jennika Cook, Jillan Hanel, Jonson Cook, and Joseph Cook; his sons-in-law Russell Johnson and Lee Hanel; and his grandchildren Lillie Rosalie Hanel and John Clark Johnson, all of Round Rock, Texas. He is also survived by Jonathan Cook of Houston.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward, 1988; mother, Jennie, in 1982; and sister, Rebecca, in 2003.
Visitation were observed on Friday, January 25 at The Garbles Funeral Chapel in Georgetown, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 26 at Our Lady of the Rosary cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
