Geneva "GG" Johnson, 91, of Midland, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Chaplain Johnny Touchstone, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, January 31, 2011 at the funeral home. GG was born January 21, 1920 in Sayer, Oklahoma to Lena (Dunn) and Emmitt England. She married Max Johnson in 1945 in Odessa. He preceded GG in death in August 1994. She was raised in Oklahoma. During World War II GG headed to California to become an overhead welder in the shipyards. Returning to Oklahoma she worked in several cafes as an "excellent" cook. GG and Max followed the rigs to Louisiana, Arkansas and finally Midland, where they made their home in 1960. She worked in their gardens with Max during "his" retirement. (She said women never retired.) Max would bring the vegetables in the back door and GG would throw them out the front door. She loved oil painting and ceramics work and above all her family! Survivors include daughter, Delana Alred and husband Carol of Hempstead, Texas; daughter, Billie Pierce and husband Barry of Midland; brother, Mickey Wright of Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Eric, Evan, Mike, Lisa and Sandi; 6 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
