Chief, Benjamin David Gulley, 33, of Katy, Texas, passed away February 17, 2013, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2013, at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Andrews, under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Rev. Brant O'Connor will officiate. Ben was born October 27, 1979, in Andrews. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1998 and then joined the U.S. Navy. He graduated from San Diego State University. He loved the Navy and was proud to serve. He reached the rank of Chief. He served for almost 13 years and was in active duty when he passed away. Ben married Shawna Sarri, June 23, 2012 in Huntsville, Texas. Ben loved to play golf, cook, and go on camping trips. He also loved the beach and he loved sailing in the Navy. He loved live music. He loved his daughter and his family. He was president of the First Class Association of the U.S. Navy and also a member of the Flag Writers Association. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raleigh and Doris Gulley; Thelma Nix; and Uncle Ralph Gulley. He is survived by his wife, Shawna Gulley of Katy, Texas; daughter, Ava Gulley of Katy, Texas; parents, Bill and Carol Gulley of Andrews; grandparents, Joyce and Leland Hamilton of Andrews; Curtis Nix of Andrews; brother, Jason Gulley of Dayton, Texas; sister, Heather McCain of Katy, Texas; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and six nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly. The family request that memorial donations be made to a scholarship fund in honor of Ben's daughter, Ava, through Bank of America.
