Anne Mahler

Anne Denmark Mahler KINGSTON- Anne Denmark Mahler, 103, formerly of Kingston, N.Y., passed away June 8, 2017, at The Hospice Inn at Huntington in Melville, N.Y. She was the last of her generation. She was born Feb. 28, 1914, the daughter of Rebecca and Chaim Denmark in Boklarov, Poland, on the German border and grew-up during World War I. Her father, a master joiner/carpenter emigrated to America and several years later Anne, her mother, and other relatives followed. With her parents and her brother, Robert, and sister, Gertrude, she lived in Jersey City, N.J. Anne graduated from Dickinson High School and briefly attended Syracuse University, but due to her mother’s early passing had to curtail her college studies. She married Edward Mahler, a pharmacist with his own business, and they raised their family in Teaneck and Tenafly, N.J. She worked with her husband and after his retirement, they moved to Ocean County, N.J., where she was able to continue taking college courses, earned a real estate license, and worked in real estate sales. She later moved to Kingston, N.Y., where she volunteered at Benedictine Hospital and was active at Temple Emanuel (now Congregation Emanuel), and then moved to Long Island. She is survived by her sons, Rev. Richard Mahler, Ed.D. and his partner, Deborah Cohen of Kingston, N.Y.; and David Mahler, Ph,D. and his wife, Linda Mahler, nee Schonbrun of Huntington Station, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Audrey Reese, her husband, Nicholas Reese nee Mahler, great-grandson, Gavin and great-granddaughter, Juliet of Washington, DC; and grandson, Michael Mahler of Brooklyn, N.Y. Internment was at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley, Kingston, N.Y., or The Hospice Inn at Huntington, Melville, N.Y.
