Carl Nixon Obituary

Carl M. Nixon, 82, of Nibley, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, after a brief illness.

Born on February 10, 1943, to Cecil and Bly Nixon, Carl grew up on the family farm in Holden, Utah - the place that sparked his lifelong love for the outdoors. You could always count on Carl to take you for a ride up in the mountains to enjoy the scenery and the company.

Carl married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Penney, and together they made their home in Logan while attending Utah State University. After earning his degree in business, Carl began a distinguished 30-year career with Thiokol, where the highlight of his work was his involvement with the Space Shuttle program. He proudly woke the whole family at 4:30 a.m. to watch the first launch of Columbia in 1981.

Outside of work, Carl loved to fish. He could always tell you where the fish were biting and what time of day was best to go out. He looked forward each year to the annual fishing trip with friends to Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana.

After retirement, Carl joined the "breakfast club" at McDonald's, enjoying good conversation and laughter with friends nearly every weekday morning. He also cherished time on his front porch, always ready for a chat with any passing neighbor.

Carl took great joy in watching his children and grandchildren in their activities, but his happiest times were spent getting them up in the mountains - to hike, fish, or simply ride the dirt roads of Franklin Basin, Temple Fork, and Blacksmith Fork.

A lifelong sports fan, Carl especially loved college football and basketball. He was a loyal Utah State Aggie fan and held season tickets for many years. He faithfully cheered for his favorite teams and never missed an opportunity to catch a good game - especially high school football on Friday nights.

Carl also shared a lifelong bond with Peggy's family and was especially close to her siblings, whom he considered his own. Their friendship, laughter, and countless shared memories were a treasured part of his life.

You always knew how much Carl loved you when he would banter with you. His quick wit and unique sense of humor were his favorite ways to show affection. Carl found joy in serving others - whether giving friends and neighbors rides, hauling branches in his pickup, or quietly ministering in the Logan Temple. He tenderly cared for Peggy through her health challenges in recent years, a true reflection of his steadfast love and devotion.

Carl is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Penney Nixon; his children, Penny Spangler (Tom), Colette Weston (Alan), Curtis Nixon (Janiel), and Colby Nixon (Elizabeth); his siblings Glade Nixon (Merlene), Joan Ashby (Bruce), and Barry Nixon (Linda); twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Carl's funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at White Pine Funeral Services, 753 S 100 E, Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A graveside dedication will follow the funeral service at Providence City Cemetery.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Maple Springs Assisted Living and Sunshine Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness, and genuine compassion.

Carl's legacy of humor, kindness, and love for the outdoors will live on in all who were fortunate to know him.
