Dear Hynes Family

I am so saddened to learn about Pete passing. He was a great man to work with, and I learned a lot from him. He will be be missed.

May 4, 2011

Dear Hynes Family,

I have had the habit of calling Charlie every other week for better than five years. He and I were best of friends from our freshman years through our senior years at the old Buffalo Technical High School. We even skipped school together. For the past four weeks I tried to get him on the phone and only got a message from him to leave my name. The last time I called him (I don't remember the date) he was having the walk in bathtub installed...

Pete was by far, the most knowledgeable person that I knew in Customs. He was honest, straight forward and did not like to be bullied into anything that he felt was inappropriate or unfair to the Customs work force. He was, "Mr. Customs". Pete could have been the Commissioner of Customs had he put his mind to it. His biggest drawback was that he was too honest a man to put up with the political intrigues that plagued many beuracracies. His loyalty was absolutely to the United States...

Pete and "friends"

To the Hynes family:
I was shocked and saddened by the news that Pete had passed away. I had an appointment scheduled to return his lamp and suspected something was wrong when I could not contact him. Pete was a good friend. I had worked for and with him for many years and our relation-
ship was usually hostile. This changed during the last few years. I recall that he was a charismatic supervisor and
acted as mentor to may young inspectors. He was the go-to guy on a...

Pete was a real charmer with a wonderful sense of irony - I'll miss him.

Kathy, Mary, Charlie & Jim, please accept my condolences on your father's passing. He was quite a guy. As John said, he was Derwood’s friend for many years, and I recall Dad saying he was his best friend. He always enjoyed your Dad, when after retirement, he would drop by and take him for a “ride” and they would be gone for hours.

You are all in our prayers.

Joe & Cate Covert

Kathy, Mary, and Charlie, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Especially sad to know the funeral was yesterday. Your Dad was such a good friend to my Dad for many years and our families had such good times together. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Kathy, Pat and Family:
There is always one lieutenant that doesn't get the word and I guess I'm that guy. I just found out about your dad yesterday and I am saddened at his passing and for your loss. Pete was my first supervisor at the Peace Bridge Warehouse and he always took good care of me. I use to talk to him at Tops and in spite of his difficulties he was always in a positive mood.
I'm sure Mike will be there to enter his vessel when his ship reaches the other shore.

Dear Mary, Paul and family,

Our sympathy for the loss of your father. Our prayers are with you at this time.

Ruth, Phil and Philip Heimburg
