Rossi Funeral Home - Scotch Plains Obituary

Chester E. Skwirut, "Chet", 71, of Fanwood, died on Thursday, October 23, 2025.  The Visitation will be at the Rossi Funeral Home, Scotch Plains, on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 4-7pm.  The Funeral will be on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, with a funeral mass being celebrated at 10am at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, Scotch Plains.  The interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.  The family florist can be contacted at 908-322-4999.  Donations and contributions can be made in Chet’s name to Rutgers Cancer Institute. Make check payable to RUF-RCI and mail to Rutgers Cancer Institute Development (Philanthropy) Office, PO Box 193, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Chet was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA and grew up in Hillside, NJ.  He settled to Fanwood, NJ in 1984 with his wife Diane to start their family.  For over 40yrs., Chet was employed at Weldon Material Inc., as a Concrete Truck Driver before retiring in 2024.  He was a member of the Teamsters 408.  Prior to settling to Fanwood, Chet worked for many years throughout his childhood and teenage years at Hillside Collision Center.  


Chet loved anything that drove on two or four wheels, especially his Harley-Davison Road King or his hot rod, the ’34 Ford Coupe.  He attended many car shows throughout the years and won numerous times.  When he wasn’t in his garage working on his car or proudly displaying it at shows, Chet could always be found with his family, especially his granddaughter Maddy.  


Chet is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Skwirut. Chet is survived by his wife of 40yrs., Diane; his two daughters Dana Skwirut and Brittany Donaway and her husband Matthew; his granddaughter Madelyn; his brother Paul, and several nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

Chet in the 1972 Hillside High School Epoch yearbook

It was a great Hillside neighborhood to grow up in. Everyone knew everyone. Chet was a friend to everyone. He was great to know and better to be a lifetime friend. He'll be missed by everyone who knew him! Most sincere condolences to all the family!
