“Dear Cindy and Family,
“I had the most wonderful pleasure to know David from his day at the Southern Illinoisan...we worked side by side for many years and the thought that he has gone way to soon, breaks my heart for David and Cindy and their wonderful family....David loved his family so dearly and cherished every minute with them..His children and his grandchildren was his stars in his eyes...he loved them with a busting heart...he was always talking about Cindy, the kids and his grandchildren as they came along...
“I never knew this man, but lots of his life details mirror mine. Which is spooky. Rest in peace!
“Always a straight shooter, David was even quicker with his smile and his unique wit. He will be missed but his lessons are remembered fondly.
“I, too, worked with David for several years at The Southern Illinoisan and found him everything a person could want as a co-worker. Someone who was always willing help, either by doing or by listening, whatever was called for. A true professional. A truly kind and caring soul. He sure loved his family and we spent a good amount of time talking about Grandkids. Cindy and family, Bob and I have you in our prayers. Rest in Peace, my friend.
“It is a sad time for everyone, but time does help heal. Just so sorry I couldn't be with the family at this time, but thankful I saw everyone last February. The hurt in the heart becomes less, and the memories are always with you! Love Aunt Sharon
“Our deepest sympathy to your family and especially to Amber and Jon Talbert on the loss of Amber's father. With deepest sympathy, Mary and Roger Munie, New Baden
“I worked for David at the Southern from 1998-2003, and he was one of the best bosses I've ever had. He always treated me with kindness and respect, and encouraged my cartooning as well as my IT skills.
If he hadn't hired me, my life would be dramatically different. I wouldn't have met my wife, and I wouldn't have moved upstate and up the ladder at LEE Enterprises. I also wouldn't have met all of the kind folks at the Southern, who welcomed me with open arms. I know a lot of that...
“Going to miss you Uncle Dave, your the best, you will stay in my heart!
