David Allan Taylor, age 58, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, formerly of Iowa City and Treynor, Iowa, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
David was born December 19, 1954, in Council Bluffs, the son of Virgil Boyd and Helen Elaine (Mackland) Taylor. Dave graduated from Treynor High School in 1972. He graduated with a BS degree in Sociology and a MS degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa On July 28, 1990, Dave married Nancy Claire Tipton.
He worked for the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo, Iowa, as a counselor. For over 20 years, he was a social worker with the Area Education Agency 16, in the Burlington and Mt. Pleasant offices, retiring in 2008. Dave was a member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and the National Association of Social Workers. In his spare time, Dave enjoyed trains of all kinds, comic books, U of I Hawkeye Football and many other things Hawkeye and playing with the dogs at home.
His father precedes him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; 2 children, Hannah Taylor and Joe Taylor, both of Mt. Pleasant; his mother, Helen, of Treynor; 2 brothers, Michael (Kay) Taylor and William (Becky) Taylor, of Council Bluffs; 2 sisters, Patricia Taylor (Richard Martin), of Omaha, Neb. and Pamela Taylor, of Council Bluffs; several nieces and nephews; and his puppy, Pip.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wed., June 12, at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, Swedesburg, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date in Treynor. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evening. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
