Not sure what to say?

We became friends 26 years ago and quickly discovered much in common. We were perhaps a rare pairing because of the difference in our ages, but Deane was ever the true gentleman. Through the years we spent many an afternoon hiking, enjoying good jazz while sipping some fine scotch or just sitting talking. After he moved out to the house, we'd watch the goldfinches from his porch while dodging the hummingbirds, with cats around our feet or on our laps. I remember Lapcat, Seven... my...

Abbott Family,
Deane was a very good friend of ours,
especially to my husband,George. George
and Deane had been friends ever since
1950. We enjoyed having Deane out for
dinner especially during the holidays.
Our prayers are with the family.

Dear Abbott Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Although I did not know him personally; I wanted to express my condolences. With the loss of someone so dear; such grief can sometimes be overwhelming. I hope that you find a measure of solace in the fond memories you hold so dearly for your loved one. May you find strength with each passing day and peace from the God of all comfort.
~With sympathy~

Deane was a special friend over the years. He would visit with me in my office at VDOT to share a joke or provide a wonderful fishing story from Hatteras. We would talk about the latest "Garfield" cartoon which he was very fond of. When I was much younger and we became friends, I had very long hair which ran down past my waist. I told Dean to watch the door, and not to let anyone in, while I went for the clorox to kill this unwelcome intruder. Dean reached down into the commode, picked the bat up, stretched its wings, and went outside to release it. I asked Dean, wasn't he concerned about rabies. He replied that the bat...

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during your loss. I remember our bowling days and our discussion on Indianopolis 500 races.

My thoughts are with you. I remember how much Jake enjoyed those fishing trips with Dean at Hatteras.

So sorry to hear of this loss. Deane was a wonderful man who always had a smile and always knew the words we were missing from our crossword puzzles. I was always so happy when I came home to VA to visit and saw him sitting in that chair at Lee Hi Lanes. We love you Deane!
