Not sure what to say?

Much love Derek

My deepest sympathies to Derek's family! Like everyone has said, Derek always had a smile for everyone he met. We went to High School together, he was in my younger brother's class, 2 years behind me. My most vivid memory of Derek was when he came home from his mission and how he went up to everyone (at a football game) hugging and shaking hands. I know he will be sorely missed here. Prayers go out to his family!

My heart is broken to hear of your passing old friend.
We will meet again soon.

Charlie and I were lucky enough to work with you but more importantly you were our friend. We all had many good times. God Bless

You came to the rescue of both my parents more then once, and made scary situation easier to handle with your kindness. You will be greatly missed. You were an angel that walked amongst us. Rest peacefully

Chief Hughes led me into my very first live fire. He always had a kind word and a bear hug for me. He is an outstanding example to me and many others of our honored profession. As our brother firefighter and friend, he will be missed in more ways than can be expressed. Thanks for the honor and memories of knowing you Chief.

Derek you will be greatly missed you was a fun and great person to know, joke and laugh with. Prayers go out to your children and all the family, You will never be forgotten

our deepest sympathies to all of you. Sadly, I only had the chance to spend time with Derek twice and I was so taken by his kindness, wonderful attention and obvious love for his boys. Rest in peace Derek

Derek, I didn't know you for long, but know you were a great person. You will be missed. Terry Fitzgerald
