Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry to learn of Donna's passing, and at the same time glad to learn of her accomplishments in her career and of her blessings in family and students. I knew her nearly 50 years ago, when we were fellow survivors of the Harvard Graduate School of Music (She would have fully appreciated my use of the term "survivors"). We were 2 of the 3 members of the Ph.D. seminar (the third was the conductor Joel Lazar) in 1962, investigating the perplexities of 12th-century rhythm...

I knew Donna when I was little boy and she was visiting Italy. In 1970 my family hosted her while she was having holidays in Rome. I enjoyed so much her company, we talked about music and played piano together. She hardly had known that I followed her profession, and much of my love for music has been inspired by her words. In this moment I knew about her death and I feel very sad. Paolo Tagliapietra, Rome, Italy

I learned so much from having Donna as a colleague. She was a wonderful model as a teacher - knowledgeable, well prepared, positive, and encouraging to students - and I appreciated more than I can say the many ways she supported and guided throughout my years at the U. I miss her, but I treasure my memories of her and her wonderful legacy. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Donna's background lends some insight into Anna's creativity throughout her life and love for music! She seems like she was an incredible mother and we can take solace in knowing she's no longer in pain. Peace and love to my friend Anna. JB

I never met Donna but to make such an extraordinary daughter as ANNA she must have been amazing. I know she will be missed and all my love to the family as you deal with her loss.

My condolences to the family. Even though I have never met Donna she seems like she was an amazing and brilliant person. Love and support to my friend Anna Jackson.

Your mother was and will remain an inspiration to me. She was a phenomenal hostess. I used to love sneaking across to her office to talk to her about school and look at her many books. Your mother's work and drive inspired me to make it through my own graduate studies. I never was able to show her my gratitude for such significant gifts, but I see her grace and intellect carried on in you. I rejoice daily knowing I get to call you a friend. My thoughts are and have been with you...

Dear Anna and Mr. Jackson,
My thoughts are with you guys right now! Mrs. Jackson was an awesome mom to my dear friend Anna, and reading about her life has made me think we could have been great friends. She was clearly a woman of fantastic taste and intelligence. I will be thinking of you both this weekend, as well as all of the people who called her a friend. Sending you strength and love,

I feel very thankful and fortunate to have her daughter Anna as an amazing friend of mine!
