ELIZABETH HAMMOND Obituary
(nee Weber) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Anne Hammond on Friday, October 17, 2025. Born on August 17, 1942, in Toronto, she was lovingly and most commonly known as Libby. Libby experienced deteriorating health over the last few months, but passed quickly and peacefully after loving visits with family at the Bob Kemp Hospice. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Doug Hammond; her son, Chris Hamel (Ardyth, Liam, and Everett); and her daughter, Katie Islip (Derek, Carter, and Zach). She was predeceased by her father, William Carl Weber; and mother, Hilda Margaret Weber. She is survived by her sister, Jane Bunting (Doug and Annie). Libby will be greatly missed by the extended Hammond, Brankovic, and Nella family, including grandchildren and soon to be great-grandchild. Libby's smile, warmth, genuine interest, and positivity greeted everyone she touched. She was truly a social person who connected with and cared for so many. Libby was born and raised in Toronto and later moved to Hamilton. Her childhood was filled with many successes and stories from BSS, Camp Tanamakoon, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and many family gatherings. Always known to give so much of her time, interest and love to others, Libby left indelible marks as a Nursery School teacher, a volunteer with the Junior League in Hamilton - Burlington, a volunteer with Children's Aid Society of Hamilton, and through active roles with the Art Gallery of Hamilton. She loved her golf, reading in a sunny chair, a bold jacket or hat, travel and the outdoors, tending to her gardens, and most importantly family and friends. Libby was a doting and caring wife through all life's ups and downs. She was the greatest supporter and number one fan of all the accomplishments of her children in school, sports, business, and their families. A fabulous grandmother who will leave lasting memories and a positive influence on their upbringing. We continue to receive so much love and memories from life-long friends, the birthday girls, schoolhood friends, neighbours, her children's and grandchildren's friends, her golf network at HGCC, ski friends in Ellicottville, her bridge crew, new friends, and so many of whom she has left a lasting impact. She was a beautiful woman, person and spirit and will be so dearly missed. Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to Dr. Leber, Dr. Dalmia and the dedicated team at the Juravinski Cancer Centre as well as the gracious team at the Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton Ontario. Our sincerest appreciation extends to Cyndie Hammond for her love and support through navigating Libby's medical conditions over the years. A private family service will be held at Marlatt Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation.
