Because Fred was a WWII Navy veteran, I thought it fitting to know more about the ship he served aboard, as follows:

USS Hyades (AF-28) was the lead ship of her class of stores ships acquired by the U.S. Navy for service in World War II. Her task was to carry stores, refrigerated items, and equipment to ships in the fleet and to remote stations and staging areas. Wikipedia

I worked with Fred from a distance being in Knoxville. He was still at the start-up of Cumberland Steam Plant in NW TN. I was a young electrical engineer assigned responsibilities in the Cumberland start-up where I got to know Fred. Fred was a soft spoken guy as i remember but great to work with. I learned a lot from Fred during that time. When that job finished he moved to Bellefonte construction. I wish all of Fred's extended family the best.
