Gus Weill

Louisiana political legend and famed playwright, Gus Weill, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge. Weill was born on March 12, 1933 in Lafayette. He is survived by his grandson, Gus Solomon Weill of New York, NY; sister, Ray Weill Weil of Livonia; and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Leopold Weill, Sr. and Bernice Weill Weill; sister, Emelie Weill Citron; brother, Leopold Weill, Jr.; former wife, Ann Harris Weill; and son, Gus Weill, Jr. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Venkat Banda, Dr. Melanie McKnight and Dr. Yuen Caro of Baton Rouge General Hospital, Amber Terrace Assisted Living Director, Terry Atchetee, and the entire staff, Dr. Joe Lamendola, and Clarity Hospice. The family would also like to thank Gus' childhood friend of 70 years, Roland Laurent of Lafayette, Lillette Delahaye of Baton Rouge, and Father Jerry Phillips of Rosedale for all of their kindness to Gus. Special thanks also to Gus' niece, Simone Weil Levy and her husband Stan Levy, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, for helping Gus during his final years. No service will be held as per Gus' wishes.
