Guest Book

To Herb's children.

Your dad and I were new friends since I was inspired to call him on a Sunday afternoon a few years ago after worship to thank him for his wonderful hymns and books and witness. We enjoyed several phone calls, the last one in October, I believe, and had so much in common. Out of this came a beautiful tribute which he wrote for my recent book, Sunday by Sunday II. I treasure his kind words and use them proudly. In fact, I had just quoted him in a promotional email...

Herb Brokering and his dear wife Lois were very special people and friends in our lives. Our first contact with Herb was through an ALC Outdoor Ministry event. Herb took an ordinary pumpkin and created meaningful devotional experiences for our work together as camp directors in the ALC.

We traveled with Herb and Lois on separate pilgrimages to the GDR "to be with" Christians throughtout Germany
and plant trees as symbols of hope.

Herb helped us celebrate...

I was so sorry to hear about your dad - from my dad. Since we haven't seen each other for 150 years or so, I want to add my condolences for your mom, as well. My memories of your mom are forever cleaved with Sunday School and an autoharp. My favorite memory of your dad is his shaking up the slumbering elders of Lutheran Church of the Master with a celebration of dancing girls at the alter rails as part of a Christmas pageant he directed. There must be quite the celebration in...

Beth, My sincerest condolences to you and your siblings during this sad and difficult time. When I last saw you, you were working closely with your dear Father on the trips to Germany. You worked with him in performing church music as well, and I know that you were always very close. I remember so well the great times we had at your home when we were kids and what a larger-than-life man he was. What a void you must feel. We were lucky to have one of Rev. Brokering's books in our church's...

Mark, Beth, Jon, Chris and family,

I learned of Cousin Herb's passing from my pastor this past Sunday during a congregational meeting of our mission church, Nativity Lutheran in Bethlehem, GA when his name came up during a discussion our group was having regarding church outreach.

Pastor Patti Axel received word of his passing through one of the bulletins she receives from the "mother church" and forwarded the notice to me but my computer was down at the time...

My life has been blessed because of Herb and Lois Brokering. I was so fortunate and blessed to be part of his Women to Women Pilgrimage to Poland and Eastern Europe. Herb and Lois were wonderful creative children of God and they touched so many lives. Herb's special gift of music and thoughtful devotionals are part of my life. I remember his faithful life and exceptional talent each time I sing one of his hymns. I mourn his death but celebrate his life. His great love for his family is a...

I am especially blessed for having known your father and read his books. Now we can sing his songs with even greater appreciation and joy! Your father and mother will continue to live on through each of you! Jean Larson

Dear Mark and family.
Sincere condolences at this sad time. What a wonderfully creative man your father was. I still remember when he came to talk to our humanities classes about creativity in that huge room where all sections of the class could be together. He said at the end of his hour, "I don't feel like I got far enough--could I come back again tomorrow?" Have you ever heard of a guest speaker doing that? Of course we had him back, and many students brought him...
