Hilda Angueira Obituary

Hilda Angueira, of Palm Bay, devoted mother and grandmother, passed on peacefully May 23, 2012, at 89 years young.

Preceded in death by her husband, Gerardo Angueira (Papa), Hilda is survived by her sisters, Juanita Bonilla and Luz Calero; children, Cookie and Sal Martingano, David and Julie Angueira; grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric Popham, Dan and Jeannie Martingano, Adam and Christin Martingano, Nicole and Chris Johnson, Danielle Angueira; and 4 great-grandchildren, Christian, Bridget, Jaiden and Camden with 2 expected this fall.

The 6th of 7 children born in Isabela, PR to Ramon and Obdulia Martinez, at the young age of 16 Hilda was asked to stop her education and move to New York to help care for her older sister and nephew.

Hilda's lifelong goal was to complete her education. In the mid 50's, she started her journey and on May 25, 1975 she realized her most significant achievement obtaining her BS in Social Work from Adelphi University. Hard work and perseverance were rewarded when Hilda became a Human Resource Administrator for the NYC Social Service Dept.

Lovingly named Mamita by her grandchildren and setting examples of independence and determination, she constantly instilled and nurtured a desire and focus on the importance of education. Her thirst for knowledge will be carried on as a legacy to all her accomplishments and selfless dedication to family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to "Mamita's Legacy", an education scholarship fund being established for underprivileged Hispanic children.

Mamita! I know that you are running the show up there and that gives me such peace..you have no idea! The last time I saw you was at my parents restaurant when your whole family came in for dinner! I wasn't sure if you remembered me the whole time through dinner and as you were leaving you leaned to me and said "YOu used to have the blonde hair? Yes?" and I smiled BIG and SAID "YES YES!" You then something that will stick with me forever. You said "DOoooN'T YOU DO THAT AGAIN! You too pretty!" I just want you to know...I never did that again! Watch over us and keep those other angels in line!! XOXOXOXO ~Jaime

Dearest "Mamita",

Thank you for the advice and guidance you gave during the time I lived in Florida as a young girl. And I thank you for bringing your wonderful daughter into this world (and into my life). You are truly an inspiration. Though I will not able to attend your services, I am so thankful to have gotten the chance to say "good-bye" in person.

Always,
Cheryl
