Ione Z. Bocceri

1924 - 2017

On Sunday, August 27, 2017, Mother passed away after a long period of illness and diminished abilities. Born September 1, 1924 in Woodland to Fred and Irene Zielesch, a fourth generation native Californian, she grew up at the family ranch near Madison and attended local schools. After beginning her work career with Bank of America in Woodland, she moved to Sacramento and made a lifetime career of medical office administration. She volunteered countless hours in Red Cross/Military Welfare services during World War II and the Korean War caring for wounded troops making their way home from the Pacific. Her passion was travel, and beginning in the forties, she was off to Alaska, followed by Europe and the rest of the globe. Her favorite destination was (when she was asked) "Garmisch Partenkirchen, Germany " where she was blessed with lifelong friends. A resident of East Sacramento for 70+ years and very active in neighborhood associations, she was always proud to have kept the same phone number since 1947! She is survived by her son, Fred and his wife, Bonita Bahre; her sisters, Nancy Sargent and Hazel (Ed) Pultz, two nieces, Sally (Brian) Oliver and Brenda Moore; and great-niece Brianna Moore. Services will be Thursday, September 7 at 10:00 AM, at Harry Nauman & Son, Freeport Boulevard, a reception will directly follow the services. Interment will be at Cottonwood Cemetery. Remembrances may be sent to Shriners Children's Hospital, Sacramento.
