“He was my mentor in the Florida Senate, and my friend. Everything he taught me, I use to this day.
“"O" was the kind of teacher everyone deserves--passion for his subject and compassion for his students. He gave us a love of poetry that is with me still. He will be missed.
Carol Quigg Mendenhall, Class of 1968
“Mr. Overstreet was the best teacher I ever had. He literally changed my life. I had arrived in mid-year of my freshman year and he reached out to me and encouraged me in so many ways. Even though I did not pursue journalism as a career, I became Editor of the RHS newsletter and served on the yearbook committee. Mr. O was kind, talented, and brilliant. I will never forget him.
God Bless he and his family.
Debbie (Jordan) Noel
“"O" my favorite teacher of all time.
What a surprise when I saw a painting in my sister's home done by Betts (note to Betts: my sister is Lee, H £ H in Havana) proving the small world we do live in.
Thank you O. I learned so much from you.
Rest in Peace,
Cat Cathy Thro Floyd - RHS 68 the Best Year Book Ever!
“Somehow you so easily saw light shining in us, then helped it glow brighter. You gifted us light.
“I still believe in the poetry we wrote. Thank you for encouraging us to search for light in the dark.
“When I look back on the people who were a major influence in my life, O is right there at the top of the list. He was a great teacher, mentor and friend. Sad to see him go, but so happy and honored to have known him. And definitely one cool cat. Hey O!
“Mr O encouraged intellectual rigor and to know why you believe what you believe, and he helped me grow, we loved him
“Mr. O was a GREAT teacher and an inspiration to me.
