I was deeply saddened to hear about Jim's passing. He was very much a leader for the William Mitchell community and a dear friend. Jim showed faith in me as a law student and later as a colleague. He was always interested in the Native American community and supported my efforts to further their interests. He truly earned his eagle feather. Kate and I were privileged to attend his roast years ago and have fond memories of dinner at his house with gail and him. ...
“Dear Mrs. Hogg and family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Jim hired me to be Director of Admissions at William Mitchell, in 1990. He took a chance on me (I do not have a law degree) at a time when William Mitchell was going through some turbulent times. It all worked out for everyone involved. I will be forever grateful for his friendship and leadership. He allowed my office to do what we knew how to do, and he always had a smile and encouragement for me and my staff. ...
“One of my favorite professors at the U of M, who represented global legal studies at the highest level.
“I had the great pleasure to get to know Jim almost three decades ago at the William Mitchell College of Law. You and Jim may have come to a wedding reception in Fridley when my wife, Charlotte, and I were celebrating our marriage. I remember Jim as a gentle soul, a dedicated man, and an inspiration to all who had the privilege to know him.
“Dear Gail, I treasured Jim as a mentor and leader of WMCL. He showed courage when no one else was willing and he was loyal nearly to a fault. He was beyond reproach and set an example for every professional who had the good fortune to work with him or to just engage in a conversation with him. I hope you find strength and comfort through the support of each of your family members, and please know that Jim greatly shaped me in my professional life during the time I worked for him at WMCL...
“Dear Gail, I had the honor of working with Jim (and getting to know both of you!) during his tenure as Dean at Western State. Jim was a mentor, a friend, and one of the finest people I have ever met. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family. Fondly, June Flaim
Was one of my favorite professors when I had him for Contracts & Business Organzations. My favorite lines from him are "Stop Me When" & "Gotta Draw the Line", and loves his New Zeland/British accent.
I have learned a lot from him at William Mitchell College of Law.
I will be greatly missed.
“Gail...we a so stunned and sad!!
