Not sure what to say?

We are sorry to learn of James' passing but I know he has gone on to a great reward. He is an uncle of our mother's and we have fond memories of visiting him and Elise on their farm where he showed us where to drink fresh cool water from a spring and where he cured his tobacco. He was so kind and made us feel at ease. He was a great speaker and a great storyteller. Above all he was a pious and virtuous person and he will be sorely missed.

DEXTER AND FAMILY --- SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT JAMES. HE WAS A GOOD MAN. ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM FROM OUR LITTLE LEAGUE DAYS AT CALLANDS.
KNOW THIS IS A SAD TIME FOR ALL OF YOU. GOD BLESS!

I'm not sure that I could name another individual that I have respected more as a Christian than James Oakes. I know many wonderful people, but the influence the entire Oakes family has had on my life is unparalleled. I am very grateful that I was able to grow up in the same community, and observe the way you all live you lives. May God bless and comfort you.

Turners

Sending prayers up for you, Elise and Dexter, as you grieve the loss of James. I remember he always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was a good man. My sincerest condolences to you.

Swing wide the gates, a true saint is welcomed home! And add another name to the Heros of the faith. Patriot, patriarch, and servant. Always kind, patient, and full of grace. Uncle James loved his country. He loved his family. And he loved his God. What a blessing to have him in our family! We will miss his history lessons and his wisdom. Dexter, you can rest now and know that you did your best to care of your daddy when he needed you. We are praying and are confident that God will cover you...

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

I will always miss my uncle James. His stories of his youth were so great. Elsie and Dexter, my heart is with you. I will be up to see you as soon as I return from England. I love you, Dianne

James worked for me for over 10 years at Klopman and he was one of the finest men I have ever known. He was always willing to do anything he could to help anyone and was always steadfast in his faith.

We are so sorry for your loss. James will be missed in our community. Prayers to all the family. Love Paul, Stacey, John and Noah Hammock
