Weatherhead Young Funeral Home Obituary

Jane “Mabel” Oliver
March 18, 1935 – September 12, 2025

J. Mabel Oliver, 90, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. Born and raised in the Netherlands, she immigrated to the United States in 1954, beginning a new chapter of her life in New York. Over the years, she made her home in several places, including Irvington, NY, and Belle Mead, NJ — but her favorite residences were always in Brick, NJ, and Bonita Springs, FL.

Mabel spent her career with Guardian Life Insurance Company in New York City. On November 22, 1971, she married the love of her life, the late Fredrick Oliver, with whom she shared many wonderful years filled with love and laughter.

Those who knew Mabel will always remember her as a true spitfire — strong-willed, full of life, and always in good spirits, a quality she proudly credited to her Dutch roots. She loved traveling in her motorhome, sightseeing, playing progressive rummy and completing jigsaw puzzles with family and friends. Shopping, laughter, and enjoying life’s little pleasures were her specialties.

Mabel proudly served as secretary at Leisure Time Park in Florida for many years. Affectionately known as “the red book lady,” she was admired for her remarkable organization, clear communication, and dedication to keeping everyone informed. Her work made her one of the most respected and beloved secretaries the park ever had.

A devoted NASCAR fan, Mabel never missed a race. Among her fondest memories was completing the NASCAR Experience at nearly 70 years old alongside her great-niece, Brittney Beck — an unforgettable day on the track. She was a proud supporter of her favorite drivers, Martin Truex Jr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fredrick Oliver; sister, Egberdine Nagtegaal; stepson, Harry F. Oliver; nephew, Marc Jurgen Aart Nagtegaal; and dear friends, Mary Anne Kelly and Mies Debow.

Mabel is survived by her stepdaughters, Arline B. Buholz and Debbie Susan Oliver; her niece, Patricia Nagtegaal Beck (Gregory); great-nephews, Bradley Beck (Timothy) and Marc Thomas Nagtegaal (Stacie); great-nieces, Brittney Beck-Wright (David) and Joanne Guarrera (Richard); and Wilma Nagtegaal, her niece by marriage and wife of the late Marc Jurgen Aart Nagtegaal.   Grandchildren Bryan P Soule, Laurie D Curtis, Laddie A Buholz, Karen S Gee-Foreman, Annalee Davey, Sean Oliver and Kailyn Oliver.

She also held a special place in her heart for Sierra Kunigus and Hunter Wright, as well as many great-grandchildren, and great grand-nieces and nephews.

One of her dearest friendships began in 1953, when she met Lilian Nitka while working at Guardian Life Insurance Company — a friendship that endured for more than 70 years and remained a constant source of love and support.

Mabel will be remembered for her zest for life, her unshakable spirit, and the happiness she brought to everyone around her. She truly touched countless lives in her 90 remarkable years.

Welterusten, lieve Mabel.

Services will be held privately.

To honor Mabel’s memory, we encourage everyone to wake up each day and live life to the fullest — and never take nonsense from anyone.
