“To the Hayes family
I had the honor of working with Jay my entire career in Ellington as a social studies teacher. Jay and Ann were exceptional people who were friends to many people in Ellington. As my dept chairman we had a wonderful relationship ,especially in my early years. Jay provided a new teacher withe the guidance needed to become a teacher. I was given the opportunities to explore many different approaches to my teaching and Jay never placed a road block in front of me

“I, too, was honored to be his colleague when I began my teaching career at Ellington High School. He was such a gentleman and support to me as I started my teaching career. He touched so many lives. My condolences to all the family.
“To Mr. Hayes' family
Mr. Hayes was my ninth grade US Government teacher at Ellington High School (1963-64). As well, I was honored to be his colleague when I began my teaching career at Ellington High School in 1972. My husband Mark, an English teacher at Ellington High from 1968-1972, was also honored to have been Jay's colleague. What thought compelling educational conversations my husband and I enjoyed with Jay. We will remember him always.
May he rest in peace.
Rest in peace my good brother, All Saints Day was a good day to go marching in, you are right up there with them. Your loving sister Nancy & Jack
“Uncle Jay will always hold such a special place in my heart and memories. I will never forget the summer vacation that my parents (Jack and Nancy Hickey) and I took back to Maine and Connecticut in the summer of 1986 to visit with all of our Hayes family on the East Coast.
Although I did not have the opportunity to see Jay or Ann much through the years, their love for each other was inspirational. Whether it was through the Christmas cards that we received from Jay and Ann, telling...
“Even though we never met Jay we feel as though we knew him thru a dear friend of ours, Debbie Brooks. She has always spoken highly of him and his wife. Debbie had a great love for both of these people and as they did for her. We know he will be missed by all that loved him, our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and friends of Jay. Sincerely, Ken and Crystal Dunn
