Not sure what to say?

I don't know what made me Google John Dring today, but when this death notice came up I was surprised and saddened, Mr Dring (it was always Mr Dring) was my biology and study hall teacher at Augustinian Academy in the late 1960's. He was always strict, but only because he cared about us meeting and exceeding each of our own capabilities. My strongest memory was him at the desk in study hall carving a handle on a slat of hardwood flooring he claimed to "maintain order" with. We...

My heartfelt condolences to the Dring family. I was a student of Mr. Dring's at WGHS. He was simply put the best teacher I have ever had. I cherish my memories of learning biology, microbiology and parasitology, being a lab assistant, and also learning about life from him. He touched so many. He was a true mentor who I will never forget. What a blessing to this world he was.

- Amy Kortenhof Bonsall, WGHS Class of '78

May the power of Jesus' and God's love hold you close and the serenity of your happy memories sustain you through this loss.

Mrs. Dring and family, a toast to Mr. Dring, whom we sadly lost in October.I hope your happy memories sustain you through this time of loss. He taught us to love science, particularly biology which I had absolutely no interest in before his class. He taught us to respect all of our studies, and we learned studies ethics. I am now a teacher, 21 years in a Clearwater, Florida elementary Title I school, with many low income and immigrant families, and 8 years in Washington, DC before that.Mr....

Janet and family

The Stepro Family sends its condolences on the loss of John. We have nothing but good memories of spending time in deer camp each year at the Rosebud farm as well as trips to Steelville.

John was held in high regard and will be missed.

Janet and all of the Dring family. Norm vegely called to inform me of Johns passing. I shared many adventures with john and others during high school. I remember him as a person with a zest for life and a good friend. We went our separate ways and took on adult responsibilities but would catch up during reunions. I am not surprised that he became an excellent teacher mentor husband and father. The news of his passing made me reflect on the times we all shared with john and how grateful I am...

To The Dring Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy. You and John will be in my prayers. He was a great guy and one of the best teachers I had. He made a potentially boring subject very interesting. We were his "Yayhoos"! I only got to see him a couple of times over the years but he was always welcoming and gracious.

May he rest in peace.

John was truly a legend. You will be missed Captain!

Janet:
My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your children with John's passing. There have been three individuals who have had huge impacts on my life over the years - my dad, a professor/advisor I had at Mizzou and John. He mentored a lot of young men in those Augustinian days and I can say for myself: what he taught me, stuck with me.

I remember his biology lecture on photosynthesis and how he fill the blackboard with his diagram. I have often thought of that when I...
