John & Sooz after gig- 1978

I was so fortunate to have had them in my life for a good many years. I performed with John and Sooz more times than I could possibly count. The Madrigal Dinners we put on together at IU for many years remain some of my most cherished memories. My heart goes out to the kids. I will miss them so much. This really hurts bigtime.

I had the good fortune to communicate with John via email over the last number of months regarding our efforts to Revive the Madrigal Dinners at Indiana University-Bloomington. John and Susie were integral parts of the evolution of this tradition at IU. His insight and suggestions have been invaluable to our efforts. He will be sorely missed. It was an honor for me to have had the opportunity to get to know him, even if only electronically. His generosity of time and knowledge, despite his...

I will always remember the work John and Susie did and the huge difference it made in my musical and professional life. Prayers and love to you all.

To a true gentleman and outstanding musician - "May flights of (singing) angels greet you, and bring you to the Holy City, Jerusalem." Rest in peace, John

Thank you for your leadership and passion and for instilling in me your finest attributes, not only as a musician, but also as an American!

We are saddened to hear that John Howell passed away. The time that we shared with many others in the New Virginians, John Howell Singers and the Studio Singers cannot be measured or equaled. We had some amazing opportunities that many may never experience. I am grateful for the time we shared and the friends we made because of our mutual love of music. May God bless the Howell family and give them peace and comfort at this difficult time. Our prayers are with all of you.

I feel truly honored that both my son and I were able to learn the art of early music under John's direction. He has been a great mentor and friend for 30 years. We shall do our best to continue to share what he taught us with coming generations.

We will miss John so much and he made such a difference in the lives of all of us New Virginians. Praying for the family.
